Running story
The feud over Pierre Cardin's estate
Since Pierre Cardin's death in December 2020, the Italian-born French designer's 21 heirs, from seven different family lines, have been at loggerheads with his great-nephew Rodrigo Basilicati-Cardin, who was named sole beneficiary in a will discovered in bizarre circumstances posthumously. The ensuing dispute has given rise to no fewer than six legal proceedings, all of which are ongoing. At stake is more than the Pierre Cardin brand; the designer also boasted a significant real estate portfolio, as well as the iconic Paris restaurant Maxim's.
